Iceland

Iceland, also known as the Republic of Iceland, is situated in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This European island country has active geological and volcanic activities.
Its interior is composed of a plateau with mountains, glaciers and sand fields. There are also glacial rivers that run through the sea on the lowlands.
Icelandic, which is a North Germanic language that originated from Old Norse, is the official spoken and written language in the country. The second most popular language used by many of its people is English.
Danish, which is included in the country’s compulsory curriculum, is also widely spoken and understood by many people in the land. The other languages that are commonly used in the country include Swedish, German and Norwegian.
The religious affiliations of the citizens in the country are recorded by the National Registry. Its state church, the Church of Iceland, is a Lutheran body.
The citizens are given religious freedom by the country’s constitution. A 2001 study that tackled the religion of the people stated that 23% of its people are either agnostic or atheist.
The country’s estimated population is at 320,000. Around two-thirds of this estimate live in its capital city, Reykjavik, which also happens to be the largest city in the country.
The people that are native to the country are referred to as Icelanders.
The electricity in the country is 230 Volts that alternate at 50 cycles per second. A voltage converter may be needed for devices that do not function at 230 Volts at 50 Hertz.
The kind of plug that is generally accepted in Iceland is the type with two round pins. When traveling there, it is best that you bring along both a plug adapter and a voltage converter or a combination of the two, to be certain that all your devices will function during your stay.
