There are over 400 registered zoos and national parks in Germany to date. The most popular zoo in Germany is also its oldest – the Zoologische Garten Berlin. This zoo currently holds the record for having the most comprehensive collection of species in the world.
Germany boasts of more than thirty UNESCO world heritage sites. Some of these are the Wadden Sea National Park, the Aachen and Speyer cathedrals, the Würzburg Residence, and the Hanseatic City of Lübeck.
Many also come to Germany to study Nazi history. Hitler’s regime had a large impact on people’s lives, and many come to the country to personally see what the land that Hitler ruled looks like.
Germany consists of 16 states, all independent of one another. These states are locally known as Lander, and each have their own constitution.
Germany’s government is a bit complicated since it is a federal, parliamentary, and representative government all rolled into one. The president assumes the role of a country representative, while the chancellor takes the role of the head of state and exercises executive power.
The power supply in Germany runs at 230V and 50Hz. For North American appliances, you’ll need a voltage converter and, most likely, a plug adaptor as well, as most German sockets are designed for two round prongs.
