When to visit Kenya

Kenya has a very diverse geography. This diversity means that there is a distinct variation in the temperatures, rainfall levels, and humidity levels in the country. In fact, four climate zones have been determined in Kenya.

Western Kenya is hot and rainy, with the heaviest rainfall in April at 200mm. Temperature range throughout the year is from 14°C (57.2°F) to 36°C (96.8°F).

Central Kenya is probably the region of Kenya that has the most agreeable climate for tourists. Temperatures range from 10°C (50°F) to 25°C (77°F). Rainfall is at a minimum of 20mm (in the month of July) and a maximum of 200mm (in the month of April). There are two rainy seasons – March to June and October to November.

Northern and eastern Kenya’s temperatures range from as low as 20°C (68°F) at night to up to 40°C (104°F) in the day. The region experiences sparse rainfall, at an average of 250 to 500mm for the whole year. The driest month is July, and the wettest month is November.

The coastal regions of Kenya are constantly humid, with rainfall levels averaging the least at 20mm in February and the most at 300mm in May. Average temperatures change little through the year, from 22°C (71.6°F) to 30°C (86°F).

Visiting Kenya is recommended in the months of December to February and July to September. This is to avoid the rainy seasons. However, even if you go to Kenya during a rainy season, rest assured that the rain will not do much to spoil your Kenyan vacation.
